The point-less pair of Pool C will collide in Toulouse on Sunday when Georgia and Portugal face off each looking to move off the bottom of the pile at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Both Tier 2 nations lost their respective World Cup openers by 20 points apiece, with Georgia coming off second-best to Australia while Portugal put up a stern fight before falling at the hands of Wales. However, this will be considered the best opportunity for both teams to get a win on the board in what will serve as a rematch of this year’s Rugby Europe Championship final.

Georgia emerged triumphant on that occasion in March and won the second-tier European competition for a record-extending 15th time.
In what’s been a trend among the smaller nations in France so far this month, both Georgia and Portugal succeeded in impressing in defeat during their first outings of the World Cup.
The Lelos have long been known to operate with a forwards-first approach and pride themselves on their scrummaging ability, with most of their pack based in France’s top two divisions.
And that strength was on show when substitute prop Beka Gigashvili went over for a last-minute try against Australia, demonstrating Georgia’s threat from the set piece:
Portugal, on the other hand, surprised more than a few fans and pundits alike with a very capable outing against Warren Gatland’s Wales team, who only led 7-3 at the break before things opened up in the second half.
And the Lobos also showed themselves to be no shrinking violet at the line-out, with Nicolas Martins grabbing the country’s first World Cup try since 2007 off a very well-worked manoeuver in the 63rd minute.
Georgia ran in five tries to Portugal’s one when these sides last faced off in the Grand Final of the Rugby Europe Championship, but the latter will look to have a short memory with more at stake six months on.
